Ivory’s Rock Foundation is pleased to welcome a new Facilities Manager at Ivory’s Rock Conventions & Events Centre, Neil Cairns. Neil was previously employed at The Brisbane Powerhouse, a premier Arts and Festival venue on the banks of the Brisbane River, where he worked for 17 years, 6 of those as Precinct Director.

In his role Neil was responsible for Operations, Health and Safety, and IT. The Brisbane Powerhouse holds over 1,000 performances a year, as well as hundreds of weddings and events.

Neil brings considerable experience to his new role from the entertainment industry, where he began backstage in productions doing lighting and sound. He has worked in every venue in Brisbane including La Boîte and The Queensland Theatre Company and has toured with many shows in regional towns.

Neil lives with his partner and 2 young children in the western suburbs of Brisbane and said of his new role … “I am amazed at both the size and the beauty of the property at Ivory’s Rock, and I’m honoured to be a part of the team.”

He was able to shadow our previous Facilities Manager, Ben Salk, during the Earth Frequency Festival in February. During this period with COVID-19, whilst the facility is temporarily closed, he is preparing a maintenance schedule and tailoring existing maintenance software.

Fortunately essential staff have been kept on at Ivory’s Rock with the help of the government’s Job Keeper payments. We thank outgoing Facilities Manager, Ben Salk, for his work and dedication over the last eighteen months in the role and wish him every success in his career.
